Construction begins on the Tikkurila Competence Campus designed by Lahdelma & Mahlamäki architects

Construction work on the educational building for the Tikkurila Competence Campus, designed by Lahdelma & Mahlamäki architects (LMA), is set to begin in Vantaa, Finland. The project contractor, YIT, and the client, VTK Kiinteistöt Oy, recently signed an implementation agreement for the project. Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2028.

The design of the Tikkurila Competence Campus is supported by LMA’s long and extensive experience in designing various types of educational facilities. LMA is currently designing the Aviapolis Upper Secondary School in Vantaa and the Kirkkonummi Shared Campus. Over the decades, LMA has designed, among other projects, the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Myllypuro campus (completed in 2019), the Kastelli School and Community Centre (2014), Joensuu Primary School (2006), and Soininen Primary School (1997).

The design emphasizes functionality, inviting interiors, high-quality architecture, and the overall urban landscape. Public art will also be installed in the block housing the educational building. The building wraps around an entire block, but thanks to the diverse facade materials and the varying rhythm of the building mass, it has a light and multifaceted appearance.

The educational building has a gross floor area of approximately 25,000 m² and comprises seven stories and a basement level. Once completed, the facilities will be used by approximately 2,700 students and about 300 staff members. The building will become a vibrant hub that serves educational functions and offers versatile spaces and services to other organizations in the area.

The users of the educational building will include the Vantaa Adult Education Center, Varia Vocational College, Tikkurila Upper Secondary School, Vantaa Upper Secondary School for Adults, and the Vantaa Music Institute.
